Foreword for this weekends matches

What a close league we have this year with no less than 14 teams covered by just 11 points. It will certainly be a hectic and very interesting next couple of months especially with three of our clubs seeking promotion to the Cymru Alliance League.

Aber Res must be in a state of shock after their defeat by 4 clear goals away at Llanrhaeadr (who must also be in shock after scoring so many in a game) will want to get back to winning ways and this they should do at home to Hay St Marys who had an excellent win themselves last weekend away at Penparcau in the Quarter Final of the League Cup. It will though take all of “Fils” magic to come away on Saturday with anything.

Form team Aber Uni host Newtown and once again should make their steady progression up the league.

This weeks match of the day is at Bow Street, who topped the table for a while after defeating Caersws Res on Friday evening., who host Llanrhaeadr. This one is difficult to predict so a draw is the easy option.

There’s  a bottom of the table clash at Caersws where Newbridge are the visitors. Although not picking up points, the latters displays have been improving and this may be the best chance they have had for sometime to kick-start their season. Caersws themselves gave Bow Street a very good run for their money last week so another draw is on the cards here.

Another tight match is anticipated at Llansantffraid where Banw are the visitors. The host bounced back last week with a comprehensive win against Dolgellau but this one could also end all square.

Penparcau play Presteigne in another hard game to predict. This match has been switched from Penparcau due to the state of the pitch and so home advantage may well come into play here.

Rhayader have joined Tywyn Bryncrug and Bow Street at the top of the pile and should win at home to managerless Dolgellau to maintain their promotion push.

Tywyn also should gain three points at the expense of visiting Llanfyllin who must have been disappointed by their performance at home to the Wyesiders.

Finally, Waterloo host Carno who are another form side and the visitors may well just scrape home once again and remain dark horses just behind the leading bunch with games in hand.

Best of luck to you all.

SPAR League Applications

There has been a large number of applicants to join the Spar League for next season. Although at least two of these are likely to gain automatic promotion to the current first division, it looks as if most of the remainder have the required criteria to be eligible to join the anticipated new 2nd Division.

The following clubs have applied :
Aberaeron, Tregaron, Bont, Seasiders, Talgarth, Rhosgoch, Penybont, Knighton, Llanandras, Llandrindod, Builth, Llanidloes, Four Crosses, Kerry, Meifod, Montgomery, Morda, Llanfair Utd & Abermule.

A meeting of the Executive is likely to be called shortly to discuss the applications and it is likely that clubs will then be formally invited to join thereafter.

The Spar 2nd Division will be at level 4 of the pyramid and be equal in status to the current Welsh League (South) Division 3 which enjoys FAW full member club status
